UAE lifts Gulf Cup after 35 years
UAE got their hand on the prestigious Gulf Cup on the 18th attempt. Ismail Matar's magic goal turn the whole nation into celebration mode. Matar picked up the long pass inside the plenty area before throwing the ball in the net. Matar was later awarded the Highest Scorer and Best Player of the tournamnet.

People congratulates each other. Cars roamed through the streets with klaxons blaring and waving flags. Traffic were blocked at many places. The happy nation toured the city of Abu Dhabi with dancing on the Arabic Music.

Bruno Metsu, brain behind the victory
Bruno Metsu, the French coach of the UAE team, turned the team into a strong fighting spirt who believed themselves. The host nations triumph was also a piece of history for their manager, who made headlines after leading Senegal to the African Nations Cup and the last eight in the 2002 FIFA World Cup.

02/2/2007 - A huge caravan on Dubai Roads to celebrate the victory
UAE People from all the seven Emirates came to Dubai to celebrate the victory of their team in Gulf Cup. Cars were parked in the Trade Centre parking. The Caravan started from Zabeel Palace and moved on all the roads of the Dubai. The team members were on a truck, holding the Gulf Cup in their hands were leading the Caravan. The last destiny was Global Village where the The UAE Football Federation held a musical concert.

17/1/2007 - Gulf Cup Colourful Grand Opening
His Highness Shaikh Khalifa Bin Zayed AL Nahyan, The President of the UAE, on Wednesday evening inaugurated the 18th Arabian Gulf Cup Football tournament at Zayed Sports City, Abu Dhabi in the presence of His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President, Prime Minister and Ruler of of Dubai & HH General Shaikh Mohammad Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces.

Opening ceremony costs 33 million Dhs.
The state of the art stadium showed fireworks, breathtaking acrobatics, Arab culture and a warm welcome to the President. The flag raising, colouring the portrait of HH Shaikh Khalifa on a huge white cloth, parade of military men and the story on the life of the Bedouin sitting in front of his tent with his camel in the desert were highlighted. The huge gathering showed the importance of a sports in our life. The Gulf Cup has a special place in Gulf region and a distinguished tournament among regional and international sports events.

60,000 spectators watched the opening match between Oman and UAE. Oman won the the match 2-1.
